We heard of a well known pathway called the "Philosophers Path" on the opposite side of the river. We decided to hike it, and I mean it was an uphill hike. It was well worth it, though, when we saw this view.

This is on the garden bridge on the side of the Heidelberg Castle. The gardens are very pretty and view is amazing!!

Here are the kids inside the courtyard of the Heidelberg Castle. The whole thing is really amazing!!! The statues on the wall aren't original, but the wall is.

Going to the park!!

This is the path we use to get to the Neckar River Park. People will ride by on their bikes or walk. These pictures really don't do it justice. The trees all shade the path and most of them are full of pink or white flowers. It is gorgeous!!

On really warm days they will turn on the water for this rock climbing area. The kids LOVED it so we spent the day "swimming" at the park.

This is another see-saw thing at the Neckar River park. It is neat because it bends in several places and about 6 kids can use it at the same time. Evan absolutely LOVED it and really put up a fight when it was time to get off.

This is a little common area below the Heidelberg Castle. We took a break after spending the day at the castle and the kids had a blast chasing all the pigeons around the brick plot and the fountain in the middle.

On the "Rattlesnake See-saw thing"

We spent the morning at the Neckar River park. Here is another see-saw thing that is shaped like a rattlesnake, but goes up and down in several places. Evan absolutely LOVED this and really put up a fight when it was time to go.

This is a nice little "common area" right below the Heidelberg Castle. After spending the day at the castle, we took a break here. Alyssa and the other kids had a blast chasing pigeons all around the brick lot.

After spending the afternoon at the Heidelberg Castle, we stopped to take a break in a nice common area. Alyssa and the other kids had a blast chasing pigeons all around the fountain and brick lot.

We spent the weekind in Amsterdam, Holland and other nearby towns. It was very beautiful!! We loved the tulips, windmills, canals, and how everyone rides their bikes to get around.

We were looking for a place to eat in downtown Amsterdam, Holland. It's hard to see in the picture, but it is VERY crowded. There are people all over the streets eating outside and this whole street is just lined with restaurants for several blocks. You can imagine, Saturday Night, LOTS of partying going on. We ended up at the "Pancake House" for some dutch crepes. The food was good, but we all smelled like a smokestack when we left. UGH.

This is downtown Amsterdam, Holland. You can see the little coach/bike thing that was pretty commom. I guess it's their version of a "truck" bicycle style. (You can carry a lot of stuff in it.) Behind the bike/coach thing is a group of "tipsy" college students dressed in red robes chanting I don't know what, but it was very interresting. (??????) The train is in the far back, and there are TONS of bikes everywhere.

These next pictures are in the tulip fields of a nearby town. They were absolutely stunning. The pictures below the tulips are of Amsterdam during the day.

Everyone bikes in Holland. There are sidestreets along the main roads just for biking. Very cool!

At the Nekkar River park

At the park, there was the coolest see-saw kind of thing. It goes up and down like a see-saw, but it also goes around like a carousel at the same time. It is big enough for adults to ride on it too. (We ran into two sets of missionaries nearby and they all admitted that they like to come here on p-days and ride the see-saw thing.) Tyler and Brandon absolutely loved it and have been begging to go back every day. When we move into our new flat next week, we will be able to come as much as we want. That will be fun!

We were so excited to come upon this park on the river bank. The kids loved it and so did we! We will be visiting here often!

Afternoon on the Nekkar River Bank

Everything here closes around 5:00 or 6:00pm and the sun doesn't go down until about 8:30pm. Along the bank you can see people playing soccer and frisbee here. I think they have got the right idea.

Springtime in Germany!

Out very first outing was to the Nekkar River in Heidelberg. We actually came upon it by accident. We just hopped on the first trolly that came by and ended up near this river. It is amazing! On this side of the river is a huge bank, covered with grass and trails for walking or biking. There are little parks along the way and benches where you can sit and watch boats go by. We will be moving into a flat nearby, so we will be able to walk to this area often. Yeah!!!!

The Rose Hotel

You can see our big van in the background of the parkinglot. This is the hotel where we first stayed in Heidelberg, called the "Rose Hotel". The ladies running the hotel are some of the kindest people we have ever met. It's a good thing they speak English too!!

This was our first outing to the Nekkar River. We had to take a train (like an above ground subway) It is stunning! People come here to relax, take a walk on the path, ride bikes, play soccer, frisbee, or just sit and watch the boats go by. In the distance of some of the pictures you can see the Heidelberg Castle up on the hill.
